What gave you the idea to start your own business?
In my home country of El Salvador, I always had the idea to start my own business. I had a similar business in my home country, and for me it was a way to feel connected to the people I left.
What has you experience been opening a business within the Mission District?
It has been a long transition. Having a similar business in my home country is very different than having one in America. I first started off at a small space on Cesar Chavez Street, selling Avon products. The following year I moved to this location so I could sell dresses.
How does your business relate to your life and why should customers shop small?
My dream was to continue a business selling dresses and being a part of the beauty of the festivities that come with them. I feel the community should invest in small businesses because we are integral part of the Mission.
What do you love about the Mission?
I love that the Latino community is huge part of this side of the city. Most of my clients happen to be Latinos who are looking for dresses for quinceañeras and other events. This is a tradition for many Latino families, and I feel blessed to be a part of that experience.
